Walk a Mile in a Farmer's Boots

ree

Saturday, August 9

8 a.m. - 11 a.m.

You’ve heard the saying: “Walk a mile in someone’s shoes.” It’s a call for empathy—to step into someone else’s experience and feel, even briefly, what it’s like to live their life.

This walk is exactly that. A chance to step into the boots of the farmers who feed our communities every single day. No matter the weather, no matter the odds.

Farmers don’t clock in and out. Their lives are built around early mornings, long days, unpredictable weather, tight margins, and an unwavering commitment to grow real food for real people. They show up at the market with full tables so your family can eat well. They work through illness, repair their own equipment, and carry the weight of feeding a nation—often while barely breaking even.

Walk a Mile in a Farmer’s Boots is your invitation to walk with them. To honor that invisible labor. To say: We see you. We value you. And we’re walking beside you.

When you register, you’re joining a growing movement to support small, local farms through direct micro grants that solve real problems—from fixing a greenhouse to expanding a herd. When you walk, you’re raising awareness and dollars for the people who power your farmers' market, nourish your table, and anchor your local economy.

We walk to remember that food doesn't come from a store—it comes from people.

So lace up your boots. Rally your friends. And take a few meaningful steps toward a food system that’s fairer, stronger, and more deeply connected.

Because when farmers thrive, we all do.

Here's what you need to know about the event:

Since we're timing our walk with the end of National Farmers Market Week, expect this to be a celebration of the farmers that make our market what it is today. Our guided community walk will offer participants the opportunity to get to know their farmers just a little bit better than they already do. Family-friendly activities will be set up around the market. Live music will be running in the background, ready to set the vibes. Expect to wrap up the morning with a free pancake breakfast, made using market ingredients and served by Minnesota Herb Lady Bonnie Dehn and market chef Laura Bonicelli.

Event registration beings at $35 per person, with all proceeds going directly toward funding grants for farmers through the For Farmers Movement. 80% of funds will be bookmarked specifically for Minnesota and Wisconsin farmers.

Details regarding parking, route and other relevant information will be released to participants closer to the event start date.

This event is a program of the For Farmers Movement that supports small and mid-sized American farmers with grants and other resources.
