The daughter of long-time market vendor Tong Vang, Manuna Vang knows the Minneapolis Farmers Market like the back of her hand. From early mornings spent setting up her parents' stall as a little girl to afternoons spent lending a hand with her own children in tow, she's been a regular face beneath the market's red sheds for years.
While attending a weekday market in years prior might have led you to leave her stall with a bundle of new-to-you herbs and a verbal list of recipe recommendations (she's an avid home cook with a penchant for fresh vegetables), expect to find Vang managing all daily market operations for the next few months instead. She will be assuming the role of Interim Executive Director during current Executive Director Ashley Nathe's leave. We sat down with Vang to discuss her time at the market and excitement for the year ahead.
How long have you been coming to the Minneapolis Farmers Market?
"I've been visiting the Minneapolis Farmers Market since I was a little girl, accompanying my parents. They were among the first Hmong vendors at the market, so it's always held a special place in my heart."

What is your favorite market memory?
"One of my favorite memories is from last season when I was helping my mom with her veggie stand. She had mustard green flowers that she didn't think anyone would buy, but I was determined to prove her wrong. We ended up selling out, and it was such a funny and satisfying moment for both of us!"

What gets you excited about working at the market in a different capacity?
"The market has always felt like a second home to me, and I'm thrilled to be a part of its operations. I'm excited to contribute to making it an even more welcoming and positive space for everyone who visits."

Is there anything you're looking forward to this season?
"I'm eager to see what new, fresh produce the farmers will bring this season. There's always something exciting to discover, and I can't wait to see what surprises they have in store.
What piece of advice do you have for market goers?
"Arrive early, and take your time exploring. You'll find great deals and fresh products that suit your needs, and you might even
discover something new along the way."
